Martínez-Plantić to open ProBox era in WBC title bout on Aug 29
Lester Martínez will defend his interim WBC super-middleweight title against unbeaten Luka Plantić on 29 August as ProBox launches its new series.
Lester Martínez will defend his interim WBC super-middleweight title against Luka Plantić on 29 August, with the bout also serving as the opening event for ProBox’s new Championship Series. The fight is scheduled for the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles.
Martínez enters his first defence after winning the interim belt against Immanuwel Aleem in March. The Guatemalan has a record of 20 wins, one draw and 16 knockouts, leaving him unbeaten as he takes on the biggest challenge of his reign so far.
Plantić brings a perfect 13-0 record to the contest, including 10 victories inside the distance. The Croatian has moved up the super-middleweight rankings and will be seeking the first championship of his professional career.
The meeting places two undefeated fighters in the same ring for an interim WBC title in the 168-pound division. Martínez’s experience and championship status will be tested by Plantić’s unbeaten run and knockout record, giving the contest importance beyond the belt itself.
The Los Angeles card will also feature Najee Lopez, Juan Carrillo, Ramón Cárdenas, Leonardo Carrillo, Luis “Koreano” Torres, Jordan White, Weljon Mindoro and Carlos Ocampo. Their inclusion gives the event an international line-up alongside the main fight.
The date will mark a change in ProBox’s presentation of boxing events. Its Championship Series will begin with a subscription model priced at five dollars per month, part of an effort to make high-level fights available to fans around the world. The Martínez-Plantić title fight will therefore introduce both a new championship platform and a significant test for the WBC interim champion.
