Zimbabwe’s Wilfred Mashaya wins four golds at ICO Scottish Open

Zimbabwean martial artist Wilfred Mashaya won four gold medals in weapons categories at the ICO Scottish Open in Glasgow over the weekend.

Zimbabwean martial artist Wilfred Mashaya won four gold medals at the International Combat Organisation Scottish Open in Glasgow over the weekend. The result marked a clean sweep in his first appearance at the tournament.

Mashaya finished first in the traditional weapons, freestyle weapons, creative weapons and musical weapons divisions. His performance secured four separate titles across the competition’s weapons categories.

The event was staged at Easterhouse Sports Centre and brought together high-level competitors from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Mashaya’s results placed him at the top of each category in which he competed.

The Scottish Open gave Mashaya the chance to measure his level against other martial arts masters. He also used the competition as preparation for the International Combat Organisation World Championships, which are scheduled for France in October.

Mashaya said the tournament had been valuable because it allowed him to compete against other experienced practitioners and assess his own progress. The four-gold haul now gives him a strong result to carry into his preparations for the world championships.
