2026 Nigeria Cup Golf organisers promise carnival-style tournament
The 29th Nigeria Cup Golf Tournament will run in Lagos from September 19-27, 2026, with competition, entertainment and themed game days.
Organisers of the 29th Nigeria Cup Golf Tournament have promised a carnival-style event when the competition takes place at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos from September 19 to 27, 2026. The programme will combine amateur golf with entertainment and corporate hospitality.
Mohamed Oyibo, chairman of the organising committee, outlined the plans at the tournament’s pre-event press conference at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938. He said the organisers want this edition to go beyond a conventional golf tournament and set a higher standard for competitive amateur golf and sporting presentation in Nigeria.
The 2026 event carries the theme “Born of Legacy, Built for Greatness”. Its organisers intend to turn the club’s fairways and surrounding facilities into a broader hospitality setting, with the tournament also forming part of activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary.
The schedule will include separate game days for children, caddies, ladies and veterans. Professional golfers will also take part before the tournament reaches its Grand Finale on Saturday. These categories are designed to bring different sections of the golf community into the nine-day programme.
Away from the daily tee-offs, the event will feature a Championship Watch Party and a Legacy Gala on the Sunday evening. Major corporate brands and lifestyle partners are supporting those additions, while sponsors and individual donors have also backed the tournament over the years.
The Nigeria Cup is owned by the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association, which uses the competition to celebrate the country’s Independence Anniversary. The association was established on January 22, 1995, and the 2026 edition will continue the tournament’s role within that annual celebration.
