Abe Alsaghir beats Fabrizio Escarrega by split decision

Abe Alsaghir secured a split decision victory over Fabrizio Escarrega during the first week of Dana White's Contender Series Season 10.

Abe Alsaghir earned a split decision victory against Fabrizio Escarrega in the penultimate bout of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, Week 1. The judges scored the lightweight contest 29-28, 29-28, and 27-30 in favor of Alsaghir.

Alsaghir attempted to dictate the tempo from the start of the 155-pound fight. Escarrega responded by initiating clinches and landing heavy strikes to regain control. While Alsaghir managed to land combinations and frequently sought takedowns, he failed to bring Escarrega to the canvas during the opening round.

The second round lacked significant action as both fighters spent the majority of the period in the clinch. Alsaghir made more than twelve attempts at double-leg takedowns, but none were successful.

Fatigue became evident in the third round, with both men engaging in scrambles and position reversals on the ground. Alsaghir briefly looked for a heel hook submission, but the attempt did not pose a serious threat. The final 20 seconds of the match saw both fighters trading wild punches, though neither landed a meaningful blow before the bell rang.

Despite the win, the performance raised questions regarding whether either fighter performed well enough to secure a UFC contract. The bout was characterized by a lack of significant offensive output throughout the three rounds.
