Alkorta claims ego issues hinder Mbappe and Vinicius partnership
Former Real Madrid player Alkorta suggests that personality clashes rather than tactics are preventing Mbappe and Vinicius from finding success together.
Former Real Madrid player Alkorta believes that ego issues are preventing Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior from forming a successful partnership. He noted that the connection between the two players has not yet clicked since the French forward arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2024.
Alkorta suggested that the difficulties between the duo stem from their personalities rather than tactical problems. While he admitted he has not personally experienced such ego conflicts in a dressing room, he observed that the players have struggled to complement one another.
Despite these challenges, Alkorta remains optimistic about the duo's potential under the new manager, Jose Mourinho. He stated that Mbappe possesses the talent to score 50 goals in a single season and expressed hope that Mourinho can improve their collective performance.
Alkorta expects Mourinho to set high standards for Vinicius Junior if the Brazilian remains at the club. He noted that the manager has likely already communicated his expectations and will demand more from the player than previous coaches achieved.
These comments come as Vinicius Junior's representatives meet with Real Madrid to discuss a contract extension. The 26-year-old currently has a deal that runs until 2027, and negotiations regarding a new agreement are reportedly progressing with optimism from both parties.
Real Madrid are currently preparing for their upcoming preseason schedule. The team is set to play a friendly against Ferencvaros this Saturday, followed by a match against Deportivo La Coruna.
