All Blacks call up Tu’ungafasi and Hannah after 33-16 Springboks win
New Zealand have added Ofa Tu’ungafasi and Jamie Hannah for Tuesday’s Lions fixture after injuries to Ethan de Groot and Josh Lord.
New Zealand have brought Ofa Tu’ungafasi and Jamie Hannah into their squad before Tuesday’s meeting with the Lions at Ellis Park. The changes follow the All Blacks’ 33-16 victory over South Africa in the opening Test of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series.
Tu’ungafasi joins the group as a prop, while Hannah has been added among the locks. They provide cover for Ethan de Groot and Josh Lord, who were injured in a head collision during Saturday’s win in Johannesburg.
De Groot and Lord remain under observation as New Zealand assess their condition. Where required, the pair will also go through World Rugby’s concussion procedures before their involvement in later matches is decided. Their availability for the rest of the South African tour has not yet been confirmed.
The Ellis Park fixture comes only days after New Zealand defeated the Springboks at the same ground. It gives other members of the touring squad an opportunity to play before the All Blacks return to their Test schedule against South Africa.
New Zealand lead the four-match series 1-0 after the opening Test and have moved to the top of the world rankings following that result. Their next Test against the Springboks is scheduled for Saturday, 29 August, at Cape Town Stadium.
The squad additions therefore come as the All Blacks manage their front-row and lock options between the first South Africa Test and the next stage of the tour. Tu’ungafasi and Hannah will now be available for the midweek contest against the Lions, while the medical assessments on de Groot and Lord continue.
