The contest began with Wint, a former academic coordinator, utilizing heavy leg kicks to pressure the 28-year-old Adams. Within 20 seconds of the opening bell, Wint managed to take Adams' back during a scramble. From this position, Wint unleashed a series of powerful left and right hands.
