Arthur Fils wins maiden Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati, 6-3 1-6 6-0

Arthur Fils won his first Masters 1000 title by defeating American Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the Cincinnati final. The Frenchman recovered from a one-sided second set to dominate the decider without dropping a game.

Fils controlled the opening set and took it 6-3, putting himself in position to complete a straightforward victory. Tiafoe responded sharply, however, winning the second set 6-1 as Fils struggled to maintain his level.

The match changed again in the deciding set. Fils regained control immediately and swept through the final six games to secure the biggest title of his career. The victory marked his maiden success at Masters 1000 level.

The result also completed an important recovery for Fils, whose progress during the first half of 2026 had been affected by a stress fracture in his back. His return to form culminated in a major title and lifted him to 11th in the ATP Rankings.

Fils will now take that achievement into the US Open, having established himself among the leading contenders for a first Grand Slam title. He said the trophy represented the reward for years of training, sacrifice and dealing with setbacks, while also describing the final as an emotional occasion.

The 21-year-old received $1,151,380 for winning in Cincinnati. Tiafoe earned $612,340 for reaching the final, although his defeat left him visibly frustrated as he sat in his chair after the match.
