Bendel Insurance re-sign Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie
The 26-year-old returns to Bendel Insurance on a one-year deal after spells in Ethiopia and Tanzania, following the club’s seventh-place NPFL 2026 finish.
Bendel Insurance have completed the return of 26-year-old Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie on a one-year contract. The former captain is heading back to the Benin City club after leaving in 2024 and spending time in Ethiopia and Tanzania.
Obasogie joined Fasil Kenema Sport Club in the Ethiopian Premier League after his departure from Bendel Insurance. He later played for Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars before agreeing to return to the two-time Nigerian champions.
The goalkeeper has one appearance for Nigeria and was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. His return gives Bendel Insurance a player with previous experience at the club as well as international involvement.
Bendel Insurance finished seventh in the 2026 Nigeria Professional Football League with 54 points from 38 matches. Their record was 13 wins, 15 draws and 10 defeats, with 43 goals scored and 38 conceded. The team’s last five matches produced two wins, two draws and one loss: victories over Katsina United and Wikki Tourist, draws against El Kanemi Warriors and Remo Stars, and a defeat by Enugu Rangers.
Obasogie’s first season back will begin as Bendel Insurance prepare to host Warri Wolves on August 30 in the NPFL. The club confirmed the goalkeeper’s return on Monday, bringing back a player who previously wore the captain’s armband before pursuing opportunities outside Nigeria.
Obasogie has also closed his spell with Singida Black Stars, where he thanked the Tanzanian club for the experience and relationships built during his time there. He now returns to Bendel Insurance with the opportunity to continue his career in the NPFL and compete again for the side where part of his journey began.
