Callum Simpson wins rematch against Troy Williamson to claim titles

Callum Simpson reclaimed the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles on Saturday night at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds. Simpson defeated Troy Williamson by unanimous decision in a 12-round rematch. The judges provided scores of 116-112, 117-112, and 115-113 in favor of Simpson.

The result serves as revenge for Simpson, as the loss to Williamson in December was the only defeat of his professional career. In their previous encounter, Williamson won via a 10th-round stoppage after scoring four knockdowns. This victory brings the rivalry to a level of one win for each fighter.

Simpson utilized his size and work rate to maintain control throughout the contest. He caused significant trouble for Williamson in the third round, landing heavy punches at close range that forced the former champion to clinch to survive the round. While Williamson found success in the middle and later rounds by landing cleaner punches and forcing Simpson backward, he could not replicate his previous stoppage.

Simpson managed the distance effectively, particularly by the 10th round, to prevent the fight from becoming a pure exchange of punches. He used combinations and leaned on Williamson during inside exchanges to avoid the clean openings that led to the knockdowns in their first meeting.
