Ceuta opens missing persons office following mass migration surge

Authorities in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta have established a dedicated missing persons office. The facility aims to assist families searching for relatives who went missing during last week's mass migration attempt from Morocco.

The office was created following an unprecedented influx of people into the territory. Officials are currently working to locate individuals who remain unaccounted for after the border crossing on Thursday.

Teams managing the operation have gathered 29 profiles of people who may be missing. So far, one individual has been successfully identified. Family members are visiting the Civil Guard facility located near the Tarajal border crossing to provide information that might aid identification efforts.

The recent surge saw approximately 72,000 migrants enter Ceuta. Authorities state that most of these individuals, with the exception of a few thousand, have since returned to Morocco. While some families have been reunited with their relatives, others have not found the answers they seek.

The migration attempt resulted in significant loss of life. Spanish and Moroccan authorities confirmed that more than 80 migrants died during the event. These deaths included individuals who drowned or were killed in a stampede while attempting to cross a breakwater barrier.

The newly opened office serves as the primary contact point for families seeking information regarding their missing loved ones.
