Chelsea complete signing of Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano

Chelsea have secured the transfer of Spanish defender Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano on a five-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Chelsea have confirmed the acquisition of Pep Chavarria from La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano. The 28-year-old Spaniard has committed to a five-year contract with the Premier League club.

Chavarria will join his new teammates for training at Cobham as the squad prepares for the 2026/27 campaign. The defender expressed his excitement about the move, describing the transfer to one of the world's largest clubs as a dream and a significant opportunity. He noted his readiness to work hard for the team's success and credited his family for their support in reaching this stage of his career.

The left-back's career began in the Spanish fourth tier with UE Figueres, where he made his senior debut at age 18. After two seasons, he moved to UE Olot in the third tier in 2018. He became a prominent player in that division, making 52 appearances before moving to Real Zaragoza in August 2020.

Following two seasons in the Spanish second tier, Chavarria moved to Rayo Vallecano in August 2022 to compete in the top flight. He has been a consistent presence for the club over the last four years. During his tenure, Rayo Vallecano achieved consecutive eighth-place finishes in La Liga and reached a European final.

In his most recent season, Chavarria made 44 appearances. He was part of the Rayo Vallecano side that reached the UEFA Conference League final, a match that ended in a narrow defeat to Crystal Palace.
