COSAFA Championship: Sapula targets Group B top after 3-0 win

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Malawi’s Silver Strikers 3-0 to take their COSAFA Championship tally to 11 goals in two group matches.

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Malawi’s Silver Strikers 3-0 on Sunday to move their COSAFA Championship campaign to 11 goals in two Group B matches. Coach Godfrey Sapula has set the team a bigger objective than simply reaching the semi-finals: finishing first in the group and pursuing the title.

The victory was secured at Gaborone United Stadium, giving Sundowns another strong result after their opening group match. They have scored 11 times across the two fixtures and have yet to concede, with two clean sheets recorded during that run.

Sapula was pleased with the intensity his players maintained in both matches, particularly their ability to sustain that level through the final whistle. That form has placed the South African side in a strong position before their last group assignment against Costa Do Sol on Tuesday.

The coach plans to make changes for the meeting with the Mozambican side. Several Sundowns players have accumulated significant minutes, and Sapula said managing their workload would be important after two demanding matches played within a short period.

The final Group B fixture will also give other members of the squad an opportunity to contribute. Sundowns’ stated aim is to collect maximum points from all three group games, secure top spot and enter the semi-final with a rested squad capable of maintaining their push for the COSAFA Championship.
