Costa backs Terem Moffi to make major Bundesliga impact at Hamburg

Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa believes Terem Moffi can become a major force for the Bundesliga club after completing his permanent transfer from OGC Nice. The Nigeria striker joined Hamburg on Monday, giving the German side another attacking option ahead of the new Bundesliga season.

Costa sees Moffi’s physical power, speed and finishing as the main qualities that can make him difficult for defenders to handle. He also expects the forward’s movement behind the defensive line and his work inside the penalty area to create problems for opponents.

The Hamburg sporting director also highlighted Moffi’s ability to contribute when receiving the ball with his back to goal. In Costa’s assessment, that combination of strength, movement and technique can give Hamburg more variety in attack and increase the overall options available within the squad.

Moffi arrives with experience from a career that has taken him through six countries. The 27-year-old has scored 88 goals and supplied 13 assists in 228 competitive club appearances, providing a substantial record as he begins his next chapter in Germany.

He has also represented Nigeria 23 times, scoring six goals and adding two assists. Costa believes that background, together with Moffi’s style of play, gives the striker the qualities needed to make an immediate contribution at Hamburg.

The next priority is to bring Moffi into the team quickly so that he can adapt to his new surroundings and playing relationships. Costa expects the signing to provide Hamburg with greater attacking firepower and more tactical flexibility as the club prepares for the Bundesliga campaign.
