Dave Rennie hints at Richie Mo'unga call-up after Proctor injury

All Blacks coach Dave Rennie has suggested Richie Mo'unga could join the squad following Billy Proctor's shoulder injury in Cape Town.

All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie has suggested that Richie Mo'unga could be brought into the squad following an injury to Billy Proctor. The injury occurred during New Zealand's 38-21 win against the Stormers at Cape Town Stadium on Friday.

Proctor suffered a fractured shoulder blade during the match and is set to return home on Thursday. While the 27-year-old does not need surgery, he is expected to be unavailable for 10 to 12 weeks. Rennie expressed his disappointment regarding the setback for the player.

When asked if Mo'unga would be the specific player chosen to replace Proctor, Rennie did not provide a definitive answer. He smiled during the press conference on Sunday but noted that the team would work through the selection process.

Mo'unga is currently eligible for selection after playing two NPC matches for Canterbury following his time in Japan. Although the 56-Test flyhalf was not part of the initial 44-man touring group, he remained a potential option for the coaching staff.

The All Blacks are scheduled to play the Sharks at Kings Park on Tuesday. Following that fixture, the team will travel to Pretoria to face the Vodacom Bulls on Saturday.
