Dave Rennie says Pumas exposed Springboks' game plan

All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie believes the Springboks' tactical approach was compromised during their recent encounter in Argentina. Los Pumas managed to disrupt the world champions' offensive rhythm, leading to uncharacteristic mistakes before South Africa secured a 17-10 victory in Buenos Aires.

Rennie described the match as an arm wrestle that featured 81 kicks. He noted that the Argentinian side performed well in neutralizing the South African kicking game. While the Boks fielded a strong lineup, Rennie expects them to bring more options to the field in future matches.

The All Blacks are currently preparing for a midweek fixture against the Sharks at Kings Park. This match will feature the debut of 44-year-old Ma'a Nonu, who will come off the bench for the Durban side. The former All Black joined the Sharks to mentor young outside backs but will now face his former international teammates.

Rennie expressed respect for Nonu, noting that the veteran's ability to continue playing at this level demonstrates high levels of professionalism and physical maintenance. He mentioned having worked with Nonu since the player was young and intends to speak with him after the match.

Although the immediate priority remains the Sharks, Rennie is already planning for the first Test against South Africa on 22 August at Ellis Park. He acknowledged that the Springboks will be a difficult opponent as the All Blacks look ahead to the upcoming international series.
