Eddie Hearn faces criticism for hype regarding Teremoana

Promoter Eddie Hearn has faced scrutiny for his high expectations regarding the heavyweight future of Teremoana. During a press conference on Monday, Hearn suggested the Australian fighter has the potential to be a long-reigning heavyweight world champion.

Hearn cited Teremoana's size, power, and personality as the foundation for this prediction. He claimed that the Australian fighter possesses something different and believes he can bring heavyweight world titles to Australia. Teremoana currently holds an undefeated professional record of 11-0, with all 11 victories coming by way of knockout. He also reached the quarterfinals during the 2024 Olympics.

Tony Harrison, the trainer for DeAndre Savage and a former WBC junior middleweight champion, mocked Hearn's promotional style. Harrison joked that Hearn should be selling cars after suggesting Teremoana's upcoming opponent was a massive challenge. Harrison noted that Hearn made the fighter sound as though he were facing Hercules.

Teremoana is scheduled to fight DeAndre Savage this Wednesday. While Hearn described the bout as a big step up, Savage is a 35-year-old fighter with a 10-1 record. Savage lost a 10-round decision to Brandon Moore last year, which suggests the upcoming match may not provide the level of competition required to validate Hearn's claims.

Critics argue that Teremoana has yet to face a serious contender or prove he can handle skilled heavyweights who can neutralize his pressure. While his knockout ratio is significant, his professional wins have not yet demonstrated the ability to compete against elite opposition beyond the early rounds of a fight.
