Eddie Hearn threatens to cancel Joshua vs Fury if New York is announced

Eddie Hearn has warned that the heavyweight bout between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will be cancelled if a New York venue is officially announced. The promoter stated that he is not bluffing regarding his intention to withdraw from the fight if the location is moved to the United States without an agreement to change the contract.

While there were previous reports that both fighters had signed contracts, the specific location remains a point of contention. Hearn noted that while he and Joshua want the match to take place in the United Kingdom, there is significant pressure from Turki Al-Alshikh and Netflix to host the event in the US. The promoter argued that the current contract was signed on the basis that the fight would be held in England.

Negotiations are currently focused on the commercial benefits of different locations. Hearn explained that the organizers have suggested announcing Madison Square Garden in New York as the site for a November fight. He responded by telling them they could not do so, as the venue change has not been agreed upon.

Rather than simply accepting a move to America, Hearn expressed a desire to make the financial cost of changing the venue so high that the organizers choose to keep the fight in the UK. He stated that his priority is the location rather than the money, and his goal is to see the match held in England.

Both fighters have recently been active in the ring. Tyson Fury secured a seventh-round corner retirement victory against Mariusz Wach in Thailand. Anthony Joshua recently competed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he defeated Kristian Prenga in the second round after being knocked down twice in the first round.
