Eritrean Air Force launches biennial internal sports competitions

The Eritrean Air Force has started its month-long internal sports tournament involving eight clubs across multiple athletic disciplines.

The Eritrean Air Force officially commenced its internal sports competitions on 5 August. The tournament is scheduled to continue for a period exceeding one month.

Eight different clubs are participating in the event, with the competition featuring athletes of both genders. The programme includes a wide variety of disciplines, such as football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, and target shooting, alongside other sporting activities.

Major General Teklay Habteselasie, the Commander of the Eritrean Air Force, observed that the current programme serves as evidence of the increasing growth of sports activities being conducted at the national level. He also offered his commendation to the individuals who coordinated the successful launch of these competitions.

Major Amanuel Tesfagergis, who serves as the Promotional and Information Staff Officer of the Air Force, explained that these internal sports competitions are organized on a biennial basis. He noted that the scope and nature of these competitions are developing over time.

The primary objective of the tournament is to identify and develop competent athletes for the Air Force’s ‘Kinfi’ Club. This specific club is responsible for representing the Air Force during the wider sports competitions held by the Eritrean Defence Forces.
