Ernesto Mercado shoves Tagoe and promises three-round knockout

Ernesto Mercado promised to knock out Emmanuel Tagoe within three rounds during the final press conference for their upcoming light welterweight fight. The confrontation occurred on Thursday ahead of their 10-round bout scheduled for Saturday, August 15, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Physical tension rose on stage when Mercado pushed Tagoe's hand away after the Ghanaian reached for his WBO International light welterweight belt. When Tagoe attempted to touch the belt a second time, Mercado shoved him again. Officials were nearby to prevent the altercation from escalating further.

Mercado stated that Tagoe would be knocked out in three rounds once they enter the ring. He also called Tagoe a "chicken" and claimed he would sacrifice him, adding that Tagoe would wake up to significant medical wrapping. Mercado further told his opponent that he would be put in a body bag.

Tagoe questioned whether the 24-year-old Californian had previously faced an opponent of his caliber. He told Mercado to prepare his mind for the fight and expressed a desire to see the power Mercado claims to possess. Tagoe warned Mercado to be careful on Saturday night.

The fight is part of the Claressa Shields vs. Kaye Scott card and will be broadcast on DAZN.
