Eva Carneiro criticises Mourinho and Terry over Hazard dispute

Former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has criticised José Mourinho and John Terry following their recent defence of the manager's actions during a 2015 medical dispute. The controversy involves the treatment of Eden Hazard during a match against Swansea City, an event that occurred eleven years ago.

Carneiro responded to the resurfacing of the incident after Mourinho discussed the matter in his Netflix documentary, MOURINHO. In the film, the Portuguese coach refused to apologise for his conduct, claiming he was angry because the medical intervention left Chelsea with only nine players after Thibaut Courtois had been sent off. Mourinho argued that he knew Hazard was not seriously injured.

Carneiro defended her decision to enter the pitch, stating she was following a medico-legal code of conduct. She noted that the referee, Michael Oliver, called for medical assistance twice and that Eden Hazard personally requested help. She maintained that as a medical professional, her hands were bound once the player and official requested her intervention.

The doctor also directed criticism toward former Chelsea captain John Terry, who supported Mourinho's account of the events. Carneiro suggested that Terry needs to learn the rules of the game, adding that it has been long enough since the incident occurred.

The original dispute saw Mourinho describe Carneiro as naive and impulsive, leading to her removal from first-team duties. This resulted in Carneiro leaving the club and taking both Chelsea and Mourinho to a tribunal over allegations of constructive dismissal and discrimination. While Chelsea eventually reached a settlement and issued an unreserved apology, Mourinho did not apologise during the tribunal or since.
