Finidi George discusses Rivers United draw against FC San Pedro

Rivers United head coach Finidi George has expressed his views following the CAF Champions League preliminary round draw against FC San Pedro.

Rivers United head coach Finidi George has shared his thoughts regarding his team's upcoming CAF Champions League preliminary round tie. The Nigerian side is scheduled to face Ivorian club FC San Pedro in the 2026/2027 edition of the competition.

George described the draw as a fair pairing and noted that it was not a bad outcome for his side. Despite the assessment, he cautioned that the actual outcome of such matches remains unpredictable. He indicated that his technical staff intends to collect detailed information on FC San Pedro to assist with their tactical preparations.

The first leg of the encounter will take place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Rivers United will then host the return fixture in Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. George noted that playing the away leg first is a positive factor for the team.

The coach stated his intention to secure a favorable result in Côte d’Ivoire before returning to Nigeria to complete the tie. His goal is to ensure the team progresses to the second preliminary round.

In the same draw, Nigeria's other representative, Rangers International, was paired against Sobemap FC from Benin Republic. The reigning NPFL champions face a different path as Rivers United prepares for their matchup against the Ivorian side.
