Fury-Joshua announcement could send UK fans to New York for fight
Tyson Fury has teased imminent news on Anthony Joshua, with New York reportedly in contention for the long-awaited all-British heavyweight fight.
Tyson Fury has signalled that an announcement on his long-awaited fight with Anthony Joshua is close, with New York being considered as the venue on Friday, November 20. The possibility would mean the biggest all-British heavyweight bout in years taking place in the United States rather than on home soil.
Fury said on Tuesday that important news was coming soon and indicated that the fight fans had been waiting for was nearing confirmation. However, the venue has not been finalised, leaving open the possibility that the contest could still be staged in Britain.
Eddie Hearn remains intent on holding Fury-Joshua in the UK, while the location discussions continue. Wembley Stadium has been viewed as an option, although November weather could create difficulties. Cardiff’s Principality Stadium offers a roof and another large venue capable of hosting the event.
New York has nevertheless remained central to the speculation. Both fighters have previously boxed at Madison Square Garden, and both experienced knockdowns there. Fury recovered from a second-round knockdown by Steve Cunningham in 2013 before stopping him in the seventh round. Joshua was knocked down four times by Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019 and was stopped in the seventh, suffering the first professional defeat of his career.
A New York fight would force many British supporters to watch during the early hours of Saturday morning. British fans have faced similar timings for major heavyweight contests involving Lennox Lewis in the United States, while Lewis also met fellow Briton Henry Akinwande in Nevada in 1997. That bout ended in the fifth round when Akinwande was disqualified for excessive holding.
The American venue could also be linked to a wider plan involving a second meeting at Wembley in spring 2027, although that remains only a possible route. For now, Fury’s promise of imminent news has intensified concern among UK supporters that the first Fury-Joshua fight may finally arrive overseas.
