Genk director praises Jerry Afriyie for his all-out work ethic

Genk have signed Ghana forward Jerry Afriyie on a five-year deal, with football chief Dimitri de Conde praising the 20-year-old’s relentless effort.

Ghana forward Jerry Afriyie has joined Belgian club KRC Genk on a five-year contract from Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah, with the club’s head of football Dimitri de Conde praising his commitment and energy.

De Conde said Afriyie’s approach matches the intensity Genk expect from their players. The 20-year-old is known for applying maximum effort to every part of his game, a quality the club believes suits its footballing requirements.

The move gives Afriyie a return to Belgium after his loan spell with RAAL La Louviere during the 2025/26 season. He scored five goals and supplied two assists in 34 appearances in all competitions during that campaign.

Afriyie is returning to a country where he has already gained experience, while Genk see the forward as both a current squad addition and a player with room to improve. De Conde emphasised that the club intends to give him the setting needed to continue developing at the start of his long-term contract.

The forward turns 20 on August 24. He has represented Ghana at under-20 level and has also received a call-up to the senior Black Stars, adding international experience to his club career.

Genk are now preparing to bring Afriyie into their squad ahead of the upcoming season. The Belgian club, which has a reputation for developing young players, will look to help him build on his contribution at La Louviere and adjust to the demands of top-flight football.
