Ghana’s Owusu vows to fight for Erzurumspor after two-year move

Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has joined newly promoted Erzurumspor FK on a two-year deal and says he is ready to work for the Turkish club.

Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu, 28, has joined Erzurumspor FK on a two-year contract after leaving French club AJ Auxerre. The defensive midfielder will wear number 42 for the newly promoted Turkish Super Lig side.

Owusu said he was pleased to begin the next stage of his career in Turkey and promised to give full effort to his new team. He also said he was looking forward to playing for Erzurumspor and meeting the club’s supporters.

The move brings an end to Owusu’s spell with Auxerre, whom he joined from Belgian side KAA Gent during the 2022/23 season. Auxerre paid €500,000 for the transfer, while Gent had previously signed him from Lyon for €1 million in the 2019/20 campaign.

Owusu developed through Lyon’s system and also spent part of the 2018/19 season with FC Sochaux. His career has included periods at Sochaux, Lyon, Gent and Auxerre before his switch to Erzurumspor.

The Ghana international now joins a club preparing for life in the Turkish top flight after earning promotion. His arrival gives Erzurumspor an experienced midfielder with a playing history across France and Belgium.

Owusu holds Ghanaian and French citizenship. His listed market value is €4 million, and his recorded injury history includes a muscle injury and a collateral ligament injury.
