GoldStars plan Kwame Opoku revival in 2026/27 Ghana Premier League

Kwame Opoku, 27, has joined Bibiani GoldStars on a one-year contract as the club prepares for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. GoldStars want the former Asante Kotoko striker to rediscover his goalscoring touch, following the 17 goals Abednego Tetteh scored after joining the club.

Chief executive officer Kwasi Adu said GoldStars believe Opoku can benefit from the same environment that helped Tetteh revive his career. The club sees the new signing as an experienced forward who can add greater strength to its attack in the coming campaign.

Tetteh arrived at GoldStars when doubts had emerged about his prospects, but his time at the Bibiani-based side produced a major turnaround. Adu said the striker took advantage of the club’s young players and finished the season as the league’s leading goalscorer with 17 goals.

GoldStars intend to apply a similar plan with Opoku. Adu said the club’s responsibility will be to place the striker in the central attacking role and provide the service needed for him to convert chances. The club believes that giving Opoku a consistent platform can help restore the form he showed earlier in his career.

Opoku returns to the Ghanaian top flight after ending a second spell with Kotoko. His impact during that period was limited by injuries after he came back from spells outside the country, and GoldStars now hope regular involvement will allow him to make a stronger contribution.

The move forms part of GoldStars’ preparations for the new league season. Adu said the club is looking to reproduce the conditions that enabled Tetteh to thrive, with Opoku’s experience expected to support the team’s efforts to mount another strong campaign.
