Gustavo Trujillo balances BKB title and unbeaten boxing run
Gustavo Trujillo is unbeaten in both BKB and professional boxing as he prepares to defend his BKB heavyweight title on August 29.
Gustavo “The Cuban Assassin” Trujillo has built unbeaten records in bare-knuckle boxing and traditional professional boxing while holding the BKB Heavyweight World Championship. He is 8-0 in BKB, with every victory ending by knockout, and 12-0 as a professional boxer, including 11 knockouts.
The Cuban fighter will defend his BKB title against Mark “The Veteran” O’Neil at BKB 58 on August 29, 2026. The bout is scheduled for the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida. O’Neil enters the contest with a 3-4 record.
Trujillo’s BKB record has been marked by particularly fast finishes. None of his eight opponents has reached the second round. His boxing record has also been dominated by stoppages, with only one of his 12 opponents lasting until the end of a fight. He is ranked 13th by the World Boxing Organization.
The two disciplines demand different approaches from Trujillo. He views boxing as a test of patience, jab work, combinations and planning, while bare-knuckle bouts require quicker reactions because mistakes can have immediate consequences. He also stresses the need for precision, since ungloved punches can produce cuts faster and expose the hands to damage.
Trujillo says gloves allow boxers to use wider combinations and build damage over time, although heavyweight punches remain dangerous. In BKB, he places greater emphasis on accuracy and instinct. He regards both formats as demanding different forms of physical and mental preparation.
The champion has said he is treating O’Neil as a serious threat despite his own record. He describes the challenger as an experienced fighter with punching power and intends to prepare for his strongest performance. Trujillo’s stated aim is to retain the BKB heavyweight belt while continuing to develop both sides of his career.
