Hansen praises Fourie and predicts emotional night for Ma'a Nonu

Steve Hansen has commended the professionalism of Deon Fourie following the veteran forward's recall to the Springbok squad. Fourie has joined the South African national team in Johannesburg to prepare for the upcoming four-Test series against New Zealand.

Hansen noted that Fourie's ability to compete at the highest level at age 39 is a result of mental and physical preparation. He suggested that modern advancements in nutrition, recovery, and science have enabled players to extend their careers, provided they maintain the commitment to follow specific programmes.

The former All Blacks coach highlighted the necessity of mental fortitude and the desire to perform the difficult work throughout the week. Hansen compared Fourie's longevity to that of former lock Brad Thorn, noting that the drive to do the hard work from Sunday to Friday is what allows players to enjoy playing on Saturdays.

Hansen also commented on the upcoming match at Kings Park, where Ma'a Nonu will face his former international side, the All Blacks. The 103-Test veteran recently signed with the Sharks to mentor young outside backs and is expected to have a significant impact in Durban.

Because Nonu will be coming off the bench, Hansen does not believe his age of 44 will be a hindrance to his stamina. He expects the player to rely on his match fitness, experience, and cunning to perform well against his former team.

Hansen predicted the encounter would be an emotional experience for Nonu, as it marks the first time he will play against the All Blacks. He expects the proud New Zealander to utilize both his physical strength and subtle skills to deliver a strong performance.
