Heskey backs Kane to return to Premier League and chase Shearer

Emile Heskey believes Harry Kane could return to the Premier League around 2028, when the England captain would be 35, and make a fresh attempt to surpass Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record. Kane left Tottenham with 213 Premier League goals, while Shearer remains the competition’s leading scorer with 260.

Heskey expects Kane to spend his peak years at Bayern Munich before considering a return to England. The former Liverpool striker believes Kane’s goalscoring ability would remain strong enough to make the move worthwhile, even at an age when he may no longer be playing every match.

Kane has already shown that age has not reduced his attacking output. He scored 73 goals last season and continues to score for both Germany and England. Heskey’s view is that the chances available to Kane in the Premier League, combined with his finishing, could allow him to maintain a return of more than 20 goals per season.

A regular starting role may not be guaranteed if Kane comes back at 35. Heskey still considers a total of 10 to 15 goals possible even if the striker is used less frequently. That output, over several seasons, could bring Shearer’s record within reach.

Heskey also pointed to the careers of Danny Welbeck and Luka Modric when arguing that experienced players can remain effective well beyond their early thirties. Modric has continued playing until 41, while Welbeck was cited as another example of an older forward still competing at a high level.

Kane’s eventual return is not certain, and the timing remains unknown. For now, he is expected to continue his career in Germany, with his current scoring record giving Heskey reason to believe he could still make a significant Premier League impact later in his career.
