ICC U19 T20 World Cup Qualifiers: Zimbabwe beat Uganda 104-84

Zimbabwe reached the final of the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup Qualifiers after beating Uganda by 20 runs. Zimbabwe made 104 for nine in 20 overs, while Uganda finished on 84 for nine from their allotted overs.

Uganda won the toss and sent Zimbabwe in to bat, then kept the Young Lady Chevrons under pressure with regular wickets. Makanaka Zinyama fell in the third over at seven, and Nicolette Nyika was dismissed soon afterwards with Zimbabwe eight for two.

Beloved Biza and Christina Mutasa were also among the Zimbabwe batters removed as the innings struggled for momentum. Zimbabwe’s lower order helped lift the total to 104, giving their bowlers a target to defend despite the early setbacks.

Vanessa Mayedza led the response with three wickets, while Tadiwanashe Garutsa and Christina Mutasa took two each. Uganda’s chase lost Shadiah Gilingish Nabulime at 22 and Sheirah Namagoba at 32, leaving Zimbabwe in control.

Mary Namiira, Jimia Abdallah Muhamed, Joan Ilora and Irene Mutonyi were later dismissed as Uganda’s reply weakened. Uganda reached 74 for eight before Mischelle Ariago became the ninth wicket at 83 in the final over, ending the chase short of Zimbabwe’s total.

The victory puts Zimbabwe into the final against Nigeria. That match will determine the team’s qualification hopes for the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, giving the Young Lady Chevrons the chance to complete their campaign with a place at the global tournament.
