Islam Makhachev suggests Dynamo Stadium for first UFC Dagestan event

The UFC welterweight champion has proposed using the 20,000-capacity Dynamo Stadium to host the promotion's inaugural event in Dagestan.

Islam Makhachev has proposed a specific location for the UFC to host its first event in Dagestan. The welterweight champion suggested the Dynamo Stadium as the ideal venue for the promotion to stage a fight in his home region.

Makhachev noted that the Dynamo Stadium has a capacity of over 20,000 people. While he acknowledged that UFC events typically draw crowds of around 30,000, he believes a headlining fight featuring himself would generate significant local interest.

The UFC has not yet held an event in the Russian republic. Makhachev's early career included two fights in the Tsumadinsky district, but he has not competed in Dagestan since 2011. His upcoming fight at UFC 330 in Philadelphia will mark his eleventh bout since his last appearance in Russia.

The 28-1 fighter is currently preparing for a title defense against Ian Machado Garry on August 15. This match follows his previous victory over Jack Della Maddalena. Following the bout with Garry, potential opponents for the champion include Michael Morales and Carlos Prates.

Makhachev has previously received large welcomes in his home region following successful performances in the Octagon. For now, the champion remains focused on his upcoming assignment in Philadelphia before returning to his goal of bringing the promotion to Dagestan.
