Israeli Premier League: Samuel Owusu stars in Maccabi's 2-1 win

Samuel Owusu scored and created another goal as Maccabi Petach Tikva opened its Israeli Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win.

Samuel Owusu scored and provided an assist as Maccabi Petach Tikva began its Israeli Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona. The Ghanaian attacker delivered both decisive moments during a strong opening period for the hosts.

Owusu put Petach Tikva ahead in the 12th minute after Aviv Salem created the opportunity. The early goal gave Maccabi momentum, and they continued to attack rather than protect their advantage.

Their pressure brought a second goal 11 minutes later. Owusu turned provider this time, setting up Marko Rakonjac to make it 2-0. Petach Tikva controlled the rest of the first half with the two-goal lead intact.

Kiryat Shmona improved after the interval and made several changes as they looked for a way back into the match. Their efforts finally produced a goal in the 79th minute, with Adrian Ugarriza finishing after receiving the ball from Ido Vaier.

The visitors then pressed for an equaliser, but Petach Tikva held on to secure the opening-round win. The result gives Maccabi an encouraging start, while Kiryat Shmona left without the point their late pressure had threatened to earn.

Owusu’s contribution ended before the final whistle, with the 29-year-old replaced in the 73rd minute. His display was also reflected in the match’s highest Sofascore rating, a 9.1, after he had scored once and directly created another goal.
