Johnny Fisher reveals potential summer fight against Deontay Wilder

Johnny Fisher has revealed that a heavyweight bout against Deontay Wilder was being discussed for this summer. The British fighter stated he was willing to accept the match, which was intended to take place in Istanbul at the end of August.

Fisher noted that Matchroom Boxing presented several offers that did not come to fruition. He mentioned that a specific proposal involved facing the American heavyweight in Turkey. According to Fisher, a FaceTime call involving Eddie Hearn and Turki Alalshikh suggested the fight could happen in late August, but the matchup ultimately collapsed due to the politics of the sport.

Wilder recently returned to the United Kingdom in April, where he secured a split decision victory over Derek Chisora. This result marked the first time the American has won consecutive fights since 2019, a period during which he held the WBC heavyweight title. Following Oleksandr Usyk's decision to vacate his three heavyweight world titles, Wilder is now being linked to a final professional bout against the Ukrainian.

Fisher is currently preparing for his debut under Zuffa Boxing. He will headline an event at the Copper Box Arena in London on Saturday, September 26. This fixture marks the second time the promotional company has held an event in the United Kingdom.

Fisher's recent form includes a stoppage victory against Ivan Balaz in December, following a loss to Dave Allen last May. He now moves forward with his new promotional deal after the proposed summer clash with Wilder failed to move forward.
