Kawempe Muslim beat CBE 1-0 in 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League

Kawempe Muslim began the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers with a 1-0 victory over Ethiopia’s CBE at Kigali Pele Stadium on Monday. Agnes Nabukenya scored the only goal from the penalty spot to give the Ugandan side a perfect opening result.

The win was important because CBE had started the three-team Group C with an 11-0 victory against Djibouti’s UJECO. That result gave the Ethiopian club an early advantage, but Kawempe Muslim’s success has put the group in their control.

Kawempe will qualify as Group C winners with a draw against UJECO in their final group match on Wednesday. The Ugandan club therefore needs only one point from that fixture to finish top of the group.

CBE’s route forward is less certain after the defeat. The Ethiopian side must wait for results in the group and across the other sections to determine whether it can claim the best second-place position among the three groups.

Monday’s result also settled an earlier meeting between the two clubs. CBE had eliminated Kawempe Muslim at the semi-final stage two years ago, making the 1-0 victory a measure of revenge for the Valley Warriors.

With one match remaining, Kawempe Muslim hold the stronger position in Group C after recovering from CBE’s opening 11-0 scoreline. Their next fixture against UJECO will decide whether they complete the group phase at the top.
