Kiplangat and Jelimo win Uasin Gishu Half Marathon in Eldoret

Erick Kiplangat and Milicent Jelimo claimed the top honors at the fourth edition of the Betika Uasin Gishu Half Marathon in Eldoret on Sunday. Kiplangat won the men's race with a time of 1:01:07, while Jelimo took the women's title in 1:10:25.

In the men's competition, Kiplangat secured his victory by a margin of seven seconds over Kenneth Kiprono, who finished in 1:01:14. Gilbert Kipkosgei took third place with a time of 1:01:22. The remaining top five positions were filled by Stephen Chebon in fourth at 1:01:25 and John Mwaniki in fifth at 1:01:26.

Kiplangat noted that this was his debut at the Uasin Gishu Half Marathon. He stated that his decision to save energy for a final sprint helped him secure the win.

The women's race saw a close finish as Jelimo beat Tabitha Njeri by just two seconds. Njeri recorded a time of 1:10:27, while Viola Munerya Chemos finished third in 1:11:03. Jelimo, who placed seventh in the 2024 edition, mentioned that her strategy was effective and noted her recent victory at the Vodafone Prague Marathon in May.

Prize money for the winners in both categories was KES 300,000. The runners-up received KES 200,000, and those in third place earned KES 100,000. For the lower positions, fourth place received KES 50,000, fifth place received KES 40,000, and sixth place received KES 30,000. Athletes who finished between seventh and tenth place were awarded KES 20,000 each.
