Lorenzo Parra set to challenge Rafael Espinoza for WBO title

WBO featherweight champion Rafael Espinoza is expected to defend his title against Lorenzo Parra. The bout is being planned for the October undercard featuring Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbilli.

Parra enters the contest as the mandatory challenger. The Venezuelan fighter holds the number one ranking in the WBO featherweight division. He secured his position following a second-round stoppage of Elijah Pierce in February, a victory that earned him the WBO International featherweight title. Parra currently holds a professional record of 24 wins, one loss, and one draw, with 18 knockouts.

Espinoza remains undefeated with 28 wins and 24 knockouts. The Mexican champion has not competed since his 11th-round stoppage of Arnold Khegai in November. If the October fight is confirmed, it will mark Espinoza's first appearance in the ring for nearly a year.

Espinoza's previous fight in December 2024 against Robeisy Ramirez resulted in a sixth-round stoppage. During that match, Espinoza caused a fractured orbital bone in Ramirez's right eye. Ramirez has not returned to professional competition in the nearly two years since that encounter.

This matchup represents the first world title opportunity for Parra. Espinoza, who stands 6'1", will defend his belt against the top-ranked contender after a period of inactivity.
