Lou DiBella predicts TKO will dominate US boxing immediately

Hall of Fame promoter Lou DiBella says TKO and Zuffa Boxing can quickly overtake America’s boxing market through Paramount and a centralised model.

Lou DiBella believes TKO and Zuffa Boxing could take control of the United States boxing market almost at once. The Hall of Fame promoter says their connection with Paramount gives Dana White and Nick Khan a broadcasting advantage over the established promoters.

Speaking on Brian Custer’s channel, DiBella said the new operation has the strongest television position in the American market. Paramount’s wider entertainment reach, he argued, also offers Zuffa Boxing a more direct route to casual viewers than DAZN, which is mainly associated with committed boxing fans in the US.

DiBella does not support the possibility of boxing being run through a UFC-style structure. He also rejects the idea that the traditional promoters and sanctioning bodies should be protected from blame. In his view, they had years to reduce the number of championships, make the biggest fights and build fighters into widely known stars, but failed to do so.

He pointed to the growth of regular, interim and super titles as part of the problem. With so many belts, DiBella believes the status of being a champion has weakened. He said many titleholders could pass through Times Square without being recognised, while boxing’s established figures created the opening for Jake Paul, Turki Alalshikh, Zuffa and TKO.

DiBella was especially critical of Eddie Hearn’s effort to establish Matchroom in the United States. He described Hearn as a strong promoter of individual events but said the British businessman ultimately returned to the UK after failing to conquer the American market. Matchroom, Queensberry, Top Rank and PBC now face a rival with a more centralised structure and a stronger US television platform.

He believes British promoters are best placed to retain major influence because the UK remains boxing’s strongest national market. In America, however, DiBella sees no traditional promotional company capable of stopping Zuffa. His concern is that TKO could replace boxing’s fragmented system with a near-monopoly controlling fighters, championships and matchmaking, even as he argues that the existing industry created the conditions for that challenge.
