Major and Nazareth Woldu win in Mendefera half-marathon

Major and Nazareth Woldu secured victories in the men's and women's half-marathon categories at the 31st National Half-Marathon Competition.

The National Athletics Federation of Eritrea held its 31st National Half-Marathon Competition in Mendefera on Sunday, 9 August. Major, representing the Southern Region, took first place in the men's half-marathon with a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 41 seconds.

In the women's half-marathon, Olympian Nazareth Woldu from the Gash-Barka Region claimed victory. She completed the race in 1 hour, 19 minutes and 1 second. Mikal Tsegazeab and Olympian Dolci Tesfu, both representing the Denden Club, took the second and third positions in the women's category.

The men's half-marathon podium was completed by Teklehaimanot Berhane from the Southern Region in second place and Saimon Mebrahtu of the Denden Club in third. The event featured over 150 male and female competitors. These athletes arrived from the Central, Southern, and Gash-Barka regions, alongside members of the Ministry of Defense’s Denden Club.

Other results from the competition included the five-kilometre races. Yobel Zerit of the Central Region won the men's five-kilometre event in 14 minutes, 14 seconds and 3 microseconds. In the women's five-kilometre category, Delina from the Central Region finished first with a time of 16 minutes, 43 seconds and 24 microseconds.

The one-mile races also saw regional winners. Fitsum Abraham from the Southern Region won the men's one-mile race, while Canary Teklemariam from the Central Region won the women's one-mile category.
