Munhumutapa Cup Round of 16 draw sets eight Zimbabwean ties
The inaugural Munhumutapa Challenge Cup has reached its last 16, with eight fixtures drawn for the weekend of August 28-30.
The Munhumutapa Challenge Cup Round of 16 draw has produced eight fixtures as Zimbabwe’s inaugural knockout competition moves closer to its quarter-finals. The draw was held on Wednesday, leaving 16 teams in contention for the title.
The remaining field brings together clubs from different levels of Zimbabwean football. Premier Soccer League teams, lower-division sides and a developmental team are all represented in the next stage, giving the competition a varied line-up.
Ngezi Platinum Stars will face Herentals FC, while FC Platinum were drawn against Blackrock. Chilli FC will meet Bulawayo Chiefs in another tie, and Jordan FC will play Hardrock.
The other half of the draw features FC Hunters against Hwange FC and Triangle FC versus Blanket Mine. CAPS United will take on Manica Diamonds, while Scottland were paired with MWOS U19.
All eight matches are scheduled for the weekend of August 28-30. The results will determine the quarter-final line-up and further narrow the route to the inaugural final.
The early rounds have already shown that the competition is capable of producing results outside the expected hierarchy. Lower-league teams have remained competitive against clubs from higher divisions, highlighting the possibility of close contests as the Round of 16 gets under way.
With the draw now complete, every remaining club knows its opponent and the bracket has been set for the next stage. The eight ties will decide which teams remain in the race for the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.
