Nations FC to face FC Diarra in CAF Confederation Cup debut

Ghana FA Cup winners Nations FC will begin their first continental campaign against Malian side FC Diarra in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.

Nations FC are set to make their debut in continental football as they prepare to face Malian side FC Diarra in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup. The draw for the competition took place on Thursday in Cairo.

The Kumasi-based club qualified for this tournament after winning the 2025/26 Ghana FA Cup. This victory secured their first-ever appearance in a CAF club competition, marking a significant milestone for the side.

The first leg of the tie will be played away from home between September 4 and 6, 2026. Nations FC will then host FC Diarra for the return leg from September 11 to 13. The club is expected to increase their training intensity as they prepare for these fixtures.

If the Ghanaian champions advance past the Malian side, they will move into the second preliminary round. Their next opponents will be determined by the winner of the tie between AS Zam of Niger and AS Real De Bamako of Mali.

AS Zam and AS Real De Bamako will compete in their own two-legged encounter to decide who progresses to the second preliminary round. The winner of that matchup will face Nations FC if the latter overcomes FC Diarra. The ultimate goal for the Ghanaian side is to navigate these preliminary stages to secure a place in the Confederation Cup group stage.
