New 60-metre network booster completed in Shashe, Beitbridge West

A 60-metre network booster has been completed in Shashe to improve connectivity in the Beitbridge West constituency. The infrastructure is currently awaiting signal installation from mobile network operators Econet, NetOne, and Telecel.

Located on a mountain, the tower is designed to provide coverage across most of the constituency. For many years, residents in this remote border region have relied on roaming signals from South Africa and Botswana to make calls or send messages. The new site includes a generator, solar power, and grid electricity to maintain service during power outages.

Beitbridge West legislator Cde Thusani Ndou stated that the tower is among the largest of its kind in Zimbabwe. He noted that the elevated position will allow the signal to reach beyond Shashe into various surrounding villages and wards. Once the three mobile networks are active, the infrastructure will connect schools, clinics, businesses, and public institutions to voice and internet services.

Local leaders expect the development to impact several sectors. Councillor Oscar Chiromo, chairman of the Beitbridge Rural District Council, said the network will assist the citrus farming community in accessing market prices and logistics. He also noted that the connectivity will support tourism at historical sites like Fort Tuli by allowing visitors to book services more easily.

In the education sector, teachers and learners at institutions such as Mapani Primary School are expected to use the connection for research and digital learning. The improved communication is also intended to assist government coordination. Acting District Development Coordinator Jahson Mugodzwa said the booster will help with the dissemination of civil protection messages and the management of health, water, and sanitation programmes.
