Nigeria's Joy Omewa makes BK Häcken debut in 4-1 win over AIK

Joy Omewa opened her BK Häcken career with a substitute appearance as the Swedish club defeated AIK 4-1 at home. The match marked the Nigerian international striker’s first outing since joining Häcken from Nottingham Forest.

Häcken established control early through Maja Bodin, who put the hosts ahead in the fourth minute. Bodin struck again five minutes before half-time, sending Häcken into the interval with a 2-0 lead.

Tabby Tindell added a third goal in the 62nd minute. AIK reduced the deficit during the match, but Häcken remained in command before Tilde Karlsson restored the three-goal margin in the first minute of stoppage time.

Omewa’s appearance begins her time at Häcken after a short spell with Nottingham Forest in England. She has agreed a contract with the Swedish club that extends through the 2029 season, giving her a long-term opportunity to establish herself in the attack.

The 23-year-old has said she wants to bring enthusiasm and a positive influence to her new team. Her immediate task will be to compete for a regular role and add to Häcken’s attacking options as the campaign continues.

Omewa left Nigeria at 17 after starting her football journey with Confluence Queens. She then moved to Denmark, first joining B93 and later spending around four and a half years with Fortuna Hjørring.

The striker’s move to Sweden is the latest stage of a career that has taken her through Nigeria, Denmark and England. Her debut against AIK gives her a first competitive appearance from which to build at Häcken.
