Noah Lyles praises Tate Taylor and Mia Maxwell for historic doubles

Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles has commended American sprinters Tate Taylor and Mia Maxwell for their double gold achievements at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The two athletes secured victories in both the 100m and 200m events, marking the first time American runners have swept all four of these sprint titles at a single World U20 competition.

Tate Taylor won the men's 100m in a personal best of 9.94 seconds before setting a championship record of 19.83 seconds in the 200m. Taylor also anchored the United States men's 4x100m relay team to a gold medal, finishing in a world junior record time of 31.86 seconds.

Mia Maxwell matched the double by winning the women's 100m in 11.14 seconds, ahead of Jamaica's Shanoya Douglas. She followed this with a 22.37 second personal best in the 200m final to secure her second gold medal.

Lyles, a four-time world 200m champion, noted the difficulty of the feat on social media. He explained that the intense competition schedule, which required athletes to run six races over four days, places extreme physical demands on the body. He stated that managing such a rigorous programme while maintaining winning performances demonstrates exceptional fitness and resilience.

The world 100m bronze medallist added that the accomplishment is even more significant because it was achieved by athletes at the Under-20 level. Lyles described the double gold performances by Taylor and Maxwell as one of the hardest achievements to manage due to the demanding nature of the schedule.
