Osimhen scores as Galatasaray fall 2-1 to Villarreal

Victor Osimhen found the net in Galatasaray's final pre-season friendly, but a second goal from Georges Mikautadze secured a 2-1 win for Villarreal.

Galatasaray suffered a 2-1 defeat against Villarreal in their final pre-season fixture on Saturday. Victor Osimhen scored for the Turkish side, but Georges Mikautadze secured the win for the visitors.

Ayoze Perez opened the scoring for Villarreal with a penalty in the third minute. Osimhen responded quickly, equalising for Galatasaray just two minutes later. Mikautadze restored the lead for Villarreal with four minutes remaining in the first half to decide the match.

This result concludes a difficult pre-season campaign for Galatasaray. The team managed only one victory across five matches, recording three losses and one draw. Osimhen had also scored in the previous week during a 3-3 draw against Rennes.

Osimhen enters the new campaign following a successful previous season where he helped Galatasaray win the Turkish Super Lig. During that campaign, he recorded 15 goals and five assists in 22 appearances. This marked his second consecutive league title following his initial success in the 2024/2025 season while on loan from Napoli.

Galatasaray will now begin their competitive season next week Friday. They are scheduled to face newly promoted Corum FK in the opening round of the Turkish Super League.
