Rolly Romero accuses Ryan Garcia of ducking him twice

Rolly Romero dismissed Ryan Garcia's interest in his upcoming fight with Teofimo Lopez, claiming Garcia previously avoided two opportunities to face him.

Rolly Romero has dismissed claims from Ryan Garcia regarding a potential future matchup. Romero questioned why Garcia's name was linked to his upcoming bout against Teofimo Lopez, asserting that Garcia has already avoided him on two separate occasions.

Romero stated that Garcia passed on a rematch following a direct rematch clause. He also claimed Garcia declined an opportunity to fight him after Garcia's bout with Mario Barrios. Romero characterized Garcia as someone seeking attention rather than actual competition.

The two fighters previously met in May 2025, where Romero secured a unanimous decision victory. During that contest, Romero dropped Garcia in the second round and controlled the pace to earn scores of 115-112, 115-112, and 118-109. A rematch following that result never took place.

Garcia recently suggested he wants to face the winner of the Romero and Lopez fight. Romero responded by saying Garcia calls out various fighters without following through on the matches. He insisted that Garcia's recent comments do not change the fact that previous opportunities were ignored.

Romero is currently focused on his August 22 fight against Teofimo Lopez in Las Vegas. Lopez is moving up to the welterweight division for this encounter. While a victory over Lopez could provide Garcia with further reasons to request a rematch, Romero has made his stance on the matter clear.
