Rotherham United sign versatile defender Ewan Otoo on two-year deal

Rotherham United have secured the signing of defender Ewan Otoo on a two-year contract. The deal, which is subject to international clearance and ratification by the FA and EFL, includes an option for the club to extend the player's stay for an additional year.

The 23-year-old joined the Millers after a successful trial period during the pre-season. Manager Matt Hamshaw confirmed the move ahead of the club's friendly against Derby County. Otoo is a versatile player capable of operating anywhere in a back four, as well as in central midfield or on the left side of midfield.

Born in Glasgow, the defender is eligible to represent Ghana through his family heritage, despite having previously played for Scotland at the Under-17 level. He began his career at the Celtic academy at age eight and signed a professional contract with the club nine years later. During his time in Scotland, he captained the Celtic B team in the Lowland League.

Otoo's development included loan spells at Clyde and Dunfermline Athletic. His tenure at Dunfermline was notable for helping the club win the Scottish League One title and achieve promotion to the Championship during the 2022/23 season. He later joined Dunfermline permanently and became a regular starter.

Over the previous three seasons, Otoo recorded 78 league appearances and 23 appearances in domestic cup competitions. His arrival at Rotherham follows his established reputation for consistency and maturity during his time in the Scottish leagues.
