
Soroti SS edge Jinja SS by six runs in Sky View Schools Week
Soroti SS beat former champions Jinja SS by six runs as Masaka SS, Nyakasura and St John’s Kauga opened their campaigns with wins.
Soroti SS defeated former champions Jinja SS by six runs on the opening day of the Sky View Schools Cricket Week. The result underlined Soroti’s progress in the sport and left Jinja needing victories in their remaining group matches to stay in contention.
Nyakasura also began with a win, beating debutants St Cornelius by eight wickets after restricting them to 48 all out. Nyakasura reached 49 for two in reply. Masaka SS joined the winners after overcoming a determined GoodHeart SS in their opening game.
Lango College made a strong start to their debut campaign by defeating Kasese SS by 112 runs. Lango scored 150 for six before dismissing Kasese for 38. The school later recorded a second victory, beating Olila High School by five wickets after Olila made 76 for nine and Lango finished on 78 for five.
St John’s Mukono Kauga, runners-up in 2025, opened their tournament with a convincing win over Ndejje SS. The result placed them among the early sides setting the pace, while Soroti also completed a second victory after beating St Martyrs Sonde in the afternoon.
Shree Sahajand Uganda recorded the day’s biggest winning margin in the remaining matches, defeating Rwenzori High School by 10 wickets. Rwenzori were bowled out for 55, with Shree reaching 61 without losing a wicket. Kiira College Butiki also defeated Shree International.
Soroti and Lango were the leading performers on the first matchday, each collecting two wins. Soroti’s success against Jinja carried added significance because it came against a former champion, while Lango’s two victories marked an impressive beginning for a debutant. Nyakasura, Masaka and St John’s Kauga also secured early wins as the competition began.
