Southampton complete permanent transfer of striker Cyle Larin

Southampton have confirmed the permanent signing of Cyle Larin. The 31-year-old striker has signed a contract for two years, which includes an option for an additional year that could keep him at St Mary's until 2029.

Larin joined the club on loan from RCD Mallorca in January. He made an immediate impact by scoring with his first touch after entering as a substitute during his debut against Watford. During his loan period, the Canadian international scored nine goals in 22 appearances, starting in only 12 of those matches.

In Sky Bet Championship action, the forward recorded eight goals across 16 appearances. This output averaged one goal every 107 minutes. Larin also found the net during his Emirates FA Cup debut, contributing to the club's run to the semi-finals.

Group Technical Director Johannes Spors noted that the move was not a mandatory requirement of the initial loan agreement. He stated that Larin chose to remain with the club despite interest from other teams. Spors added that the striker provides strong support to the existing attacking options.

Larin expressed his happiness regarding the permanent move, citing the warm welcome he received from the players and staff. He noted that his early success on the pitch helped him connect quickly with the squad.

With his club duties secured, the player with 89 international caps will prepare for the World Cup, which Canada is co-hosting with the USA and Mexico.
