Tanzid Hasan scores century as Bangladesh lead Australia by 153

Tanzid Hasan made history on day two by becoming the first player from Bangladesh to score a Test century on Australian soil. His innings helped the Tigers reach 351/6 by the close of play, giving them a 153-run lead.

Bangladesh began the second day at 96/1 under sunny skies. Mominul Haque and Hasan shared a 102-run partnership before Josh Hazlewood dismissed Haque for 49. Haque attempted a drive against a wide delivery and edged the ball to Carey.

Captain Najmul Hossien Shanto joined Hasan and continued the steady rebuilding process. Shanto reached his half-century against Nathan Lyon shortly before the drinks break. Hasan reached his century soon after the break by driving Lyon through the ground. He eventually departed for 101 after mistiming a shot against Lyon and being caught in the deep.

Australia saw a sudden collapse late in the afternoon as three wickets fell for only 11 runs. Shanto was dismissed for 84 by Hazlewood, while Litton Das fell for a duck to Mitchell Starc. Pat Cummins then removed Mushfiqur Rahim for 36. Steve Smith claimed all three dismissals, moving him to 218 Test catches and tying him with Joe Root for the record.

Despite the loss of wickets, the Bangladeshi lower order resisted the Australian pace attack. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud remained unbeaten, surviving 147 deliveries to add 43 runs. Their resistance forced Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne to bowl during the final session.

Australia finished the day with four wickets remaining in the innings. A dropped catch by Cameron Green at first slip on the final ball of the day meant Bangladesh ended the session at 351/6.
