Tapology disputes Rizin verdict for Patchy Mix vs Shoko Sato

Tapology has refused to align its official record with Rizin's verdict for the bout between Patchy Mix and Shoko Sato. While Rizin declared Sato the winner via unanimous decision, the combat sports aggregator is recording a different outcome based on the judges' scorecards.

The discrepancy stems from a pre-fight penalty at Rizin 54. Patchy Mix missed the bantamweight limit by nearly seven pounds, resulting in a two-point deduction from the promotion at the start of the contest. Although Mix technically outscored Sato on the scorecards, the administrative penalty led Rizin to award the victory to Sato. Under promotion regulations regarding weight misses, the fight would have been ruled a no contest regardless of the scoring.

Tapology explained via its X account that its long-standing policy is to record results produced by judges rather than outcomes altered by penalties imposed outside the fight. The aggregator stated that this approach prevents results from appearing inconsistent or subject to manipulation. To address the confusion, the platform will display the fight result alongside Rizin's official ruling.

Representatives from Tapology noted that the unusual circumstances of the Mix-Sato fight will be included in upcoming discussions regarding potential policy exceptions. For the time being, the site will continue to follow its existing protocol of prioritizing the scorecards.

Patchy Mix attributed his failure to make weight to illness during the final stages of his weight cut. He expressed apologies to Shoko Sato and the fans for the situation. This bout marks Mix's second consecutive loss in Rizin and his fourth consecutive defeat overall, following a two-fight losing streak in the UFC.
